The Economic Development Program (Econ Dev Program) of the Public Safety and Neighborhood Services Department is responsible for planning and organizing citywide economic development and promotional activities. The Econ Dev Program develops, implements, coordinates, and monitors economic development programs consistent with City policy; develops strategies to improve the economic strength of the City through business attraction, retention and expansion, and job creation; performs complex, advanced level professional, technical, analytical, and administrative work.

The Econ Dev Program coordinates the execution of the goals and objectives of the City’s Economic Development Strategic Plan, including but not limited to:

• Coordinating the City’s economic development activities and efforts with those of other public and private sector agents, community groups, and other stakeholders.

• Assisting start-up businesses identifying business needs and small business tools; facilitates permit processing of small business projects.

• Providing City representation to the Goleta Entrepreneurial Magnet (GEM) initiative.  Learn more about the City's role in this important endeavor here.
