Santa Barbara County Reports Two Additional Deaths of Individuals with COVID-19

Seventy-five Confirmed Cases Reported Today

Post Date:07/10/2020 7:35 PM

Santa Barbara County Public Health Department (PHD) is reporting the thirtieth and thirty-first deaths of residents who tested positive for COVID-19. The individuals both resided in the City of Santa Maria, were over 70 years of age and are related to an outbreak at a skilled nursing facility. As of today, July 10, there are 3,931 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Santa Barbara County, 998 cases are at the Federal Prison in Lompoc, 2,933 are community cases, and 3,555 have fully recovered.

“Our hearts go out to those mourning loved ones lost to COVID-19. Please wear face coverings, and stay at least 6 feet away from others. It’s important if someone thinks they could be positive and are waiting for test results, to stay at home and act as if they are positive for COVID-19. We all need to protect each other right now.” said Henning Ansorg, Santa Barbara County Public Health Officer.

Although most cases of COVID-19 exhibit mild or moderate symptoms, PHD recommends additional measures to prevent exposure among vulnerable people, including the elderly and those with underlying health conditions (such as diabetes, cancer, immunodeficiency, asthma, COPD and others). PHD recommends that residents:

  • Stay home when possible.
  • Remain six feet away from others and wear a facial covering when engaging in tasks away from home.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water regularly.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.
  • Stay home when you are sick. Do not go to work or other places.

All local employers and business owners are urged to adhere closely to sector health and safety guidelines. Ensuring a safe environment for both employees and customers is critical to slowing the spread of COVID-19 and assuring that businesses remain safely open during this time.
