We hope you will join us for the Goleta City Council meeting this Tuesday, September 2nd at 5:30 p.m. (closed session begins at 4:30 p.m.). We encourage you to come in-person to Council Chambers, watch live, or participate via Zoom. Directions for how to do so can be found below.
Items on the agenda include:
- The City Council will proclaim September 2025 as National Preparedness Month in Goleta. National Preparedness Month is an opportunity to prepare for emergencies. The City’s Emergency Services Division is working to enhance public engagement in emergency preparedness and educate the community on how to take proactive steps. The City will debut one of two Public Service Announcement videos it has prepared in English and Spanish for National Preparedness Month. Read the proclamation here: https://tinyurl.com/ew5xfdxf.
- The Council will also issue a proclamation recognizing September 2025 as “Lemon Month.” Hosted by the Santa Barbara South Coast Chamber of Commerce, the Goleta Lemon Festival returns for its 32nd year September 27 and 28 at Girsh Park. Stop by the City’s booth at this weekend-long event! And don’t forget to show your spirit by wearing your vintage Lemon Festival (or yellow) T-shirts during September. - The City Council will discuss a Tenant Protections Ordinance and hold the first reading. In December 2023, Council adopted a Tenant Protections Urgency Ordinance more protective than state law, which went into effect immediately to protect the public health, safety, and welfare of the community. In March 2024, Council considered adoption of a non-urgency Tenant Protections Ordinance and directed staff to return to Council following review by the Ordinance Review Committee (“Committee”). In May 2025, staff presented select topic areas to the Committee for discussion. The Committee considered several aspects of the Ordinance and recommended potential revisions. - The Council will discuss the Stow Grove Park Caretaker Cottage removal and new restroom location. The Stow Grove Park Renovation Project is currently in Phase One which includes the design and installation of a new restroom. At a December 2024 public workshop, participants supported relocating the new restroom from its location depicted in the Stow Grove Park Master Plan to allow for unobstructed views of the Redwood Grove. Additionally, earlier this year the Parks and Recreation and Historic Preservation Commissions met independently to discuss the current conditions, historical relevance and future needs of the Caretaker Cottage. Both Commissions supported the recommendation to demolish the structure during Phase One. Future considerations for the space will be included in the next phase of the Renovation Project.
