Temporary Bridge Constructed Over Undermined Path Section

Post Date:04/08/2026 3:07 PM

The City of Goleta is sharing this information from the County of Santa Barbara.

The Santa Barbara County Public Works Department reopened the closed section of the Maria Ygnacio Bike Path today. Road maintenance crews constructed a temporary bridge over the path that restores access to a critical connection. The section at the U.S. 101 undercrossing (from Calle Real to Lassen Drive) was closed in late February due to storm damage that undermined the path.

Second District Supervisor Laura Capps said, “The Maria Ignacio Bike Path is fundamental to how so many of our community members stay connected, active, and safe. Thank you to neighbors who voiced your concerns to find a viable solution. I’m grateful to the County’s Public Works team for their swift and thoughtful action to restore access to a resource that so many depend on.”

The Public Works Department would like to thank the community for their patience during this process. Staff will continue to work on a permanent solution. Repair and stabilization work cannot begin until the creek is dry, which could occur in late summer. Questions about the path closure can be emailed to PWMobility@countyofsb.org.
