Barge Jovalan Marine Oil Spill 10/29/10
Harley Marine PSMI, operator of the Barge Jovalan, reported an oil spill at 9:05am on 10/29/10 after loading operations were shutdown and during maintenance preparations of the offshore loading line. The cause of the spill was immediately recognized and isolated, limiting the amount to an estimated one barrel (42 gallons). The spill occurred on the south side (the side facing the Channel Islands) of the barge. A Clean Seas oil spill response vessel was on stand-by at the barge mooring and responded immediately, deployed containment boom and initiated clean up procedures.
