GOLETA VALLEY LIBRARY

October is Star Wars Month at Goleta Valley Library

Do you love the Star Wars movies? Then come to the Goleta Valley Library throughout the month of October. There will be light and dark side decorations, craft classes, and movies and books available to check out. View the Calendar of Events for more information, or call the Library at 805-964-7878.

Free Homework Help

New this year, the Goleta Valley Library will be offering free Intergenerational Afterschool Homework Help on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00 – 6:15 p.m. starting October 15, for children in Kindergarten – 5th grade. Volunteer tutors and Library staff will be on hand to help kids with their homework along with the assistance of an online product called Brainfuse HelpNow, which provides access to live tutors who can help answer problematic questions. No reservations are needed, this is a drop-in program. The Library will try to pair up the same tutor with the same student so that they can build a relationship that goes beyond homework help. For more information, or if you are a senior citizen and would like to volunteer to be a tutor, please call the Library at 805-964-7878.

Brainfuse HelpNow can also be accessed here on the Library’s website (have your library card number handy). Live online tutoring is available from 1:00 – 10:00 p.m. daily.

Meet President and Mrs. Abraham Lincoln, and hear about the issues and difficulties of his Senate and Presidential campaigns in a deeply divided 1860's America.  The evening will feature acclaimed Lincoln historian John Voehl as Lincoln himself, and his wife Pamela Voehl as Mrs. Lincoln.  Their presentation will include a Q&A session followed by a reception. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library of Santa Ynez Valley, with the Santa Ynez Valley Historical Museum, the FREE event will take place on October 22 from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. in the Parks-Janeway Carriage House located at 3596 Sagunto Street, Santa Ynez.
