Ellwood Annual Emergency Siren Test Tomorrow, Nov. 12
The City of Goleta would like to share the following information:
Tomorrow, Tuesday November 12th, at approximately 9:30 a.m. Santa Barbara County Fire Department in coordination with Beacon West Energy Group, LLC on behalf of California State Lands Commission will conduct an annual full siren test of the Emergency Warning and Notification System at Ellwood Onshore Facility (EOF) (7979 Hollister Avenue). The test is expected to last 1-2 minutes and will verify that the siren is functioning properly and is audible to citizens within a designated distance from the facility. This is only a test and no action is required. Should an actual emergency occur, the siren would sound continuously until the emergency has ended.
Though the siren is designed to cover a required distance just across Highway 101, certain weather conditions can cause the sound to carry a much greater distance. The mandatory coverage area for the siren is marked by signs. The area includes Calle Real from about the entrance to the Embarcadero Municipal Improvement District east almost to the Cathedral Oaks intersection. Also included is Hollister Avenue beginning near Ritz Carlton Resort tennis courts then easterly to just past the Sandpiper Golf Course parking lot.
Beacon West and Santa Barbara County Fire will be notifying area residents with mailers as well as contacting the school district, Ellwood School, homeowners’ associations and neighboring businesses.
