Sumida Gardens Rental Housing Project:

In November of 2007 the RDA made progress on the affordable housing front by providing critical financial support for the construction of the Sumida Gardens workforce rental housing project in Old Town. The roughly 10 acre site is located between the St. Raphael's Church property and the Sumida Nursery, near Patterson Avenue and Overpass Road on Hollister Avenue.

Through a collaborative effort with the Towbes Group, RDA Staff and The City Council/RDA Agency Board were able to assist in bringing this project to fruition for the benefit of the community. The RDA contributed $6.625 million towards the construction costs of this much needed housing project which includes:

  • Total of 200 multifamily apartment rentals:
    • 166 Market Rate Rentals
    • 34 Affordable Units (rent restricted for 55 years)
      • 14 Very Low Income
      • 10 Low Income
      • 10 Moderate Income
  • 55 Year Condo Conversion Moratorium on both the 34 affordable units and 166 market rate units.
  • Public Improvements relating to the extension of Overpass Road to a new signalized intersection on Hollister Avenue.
