June 2023
Construction began in June of 2023 and is anticipated to take five to seven months to complete. This park will be completely closed for the duration of construction.
The final plan and specifications were released for public construction bids in November of 2022, closing in December. JJ Fisher Construction, Inc was deemed the lowest qualified bidder, with contracts awarded March 21, 2023.
July 2020 Update
On July 21, 2020 the Goleta City Council chose a conceptual design for this project, which will allow the designer to complete the construction documents for this project. The City has applied for an Urban Greening Grant and Proposition 68 Statewide Park Program Grant to assist for the funding of this project, which if funded, would cover a significant portion of the park, making local funds available for other city projects. On December 8th, 2021, the City was notified that their application was not selected for funding. The design for this project is 95% complete, staff anticipate putting this project out to bid in the near future.
February Update
On February 18, 2020 RRM Design Group was awarded the design contract for this project. They created a conceptual design that was created as a result of input received through five different community meetings with local area residents. In addition, local non-profit gardening experts provided input to the design, and provided suggestions for operation.
Project Background
In 2015, the City of Goleta completed a Recreation Needs Assessment (RNA) which was a comprehensive report that addressed both current recreation resources and offerings, as well as, projected community needs. This assessment provided a roadmap to guide future recreation planning efforts. This report also provided the City with an inventory and gap analysis on park and facilities. Armitos Park is a current City of Goleta Park, but there is nearly an acre of property behind the existing play features that is undeveloped and was identified as the ideal location for a Community Garden.
