The Cathedral Oaks paving project began Monday, January 14, 2019, and will last approximately three months. The project covers Cathedral Oaks Road from Fairview Avenue west of Carlo Drive to the San Pedro Creek bridge, and Cathedral Oaks Road west from Los Carneros Road to the Los Carneros bridge (see maps below). Concrete and utility work will begin first, with paving anticipated to begin near Fairview Avenue in early February (weather permitting).
Purpose and Need
The purpose of this project is to improve the roadway along Cathedral Oaks.
Funding for this project comes from SB 1 funds, additional gas tax funds and funds set aside in the City’s budget. California Senate Bill 1 (SB 1) provides more than $5 billion annually to make road improvements, fill potholes, repair local streets, freeways and overpasses and invest in public transportation throughout California communities. The State requires each City to put its funds into a Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation Account (RMRA) to ensure that the money is used for its intended purpose.
Construction has begun on this project and should be complete by May 4, 2019. Construction hours are 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Look for the advanced posting of "No Parking" signs. There will be lane closures, so please consider driving an alternate route. One lane of traffic will be accessible in the project limits at all times.
Work will be done in this order:
- Concrete sidewalk and ramp construction
- Locate utilities with potholes
- Westbound Cathedral Oaks reconstruction
- Eastbound street reconstruction and westbound shoulder and utility work
- Eastbound shoulder and utility work
- Final striping and signs
Weather dependent, the concrete and potholing work is expected to be completed by the end of February. Following, the grinding/pulverizing is anticipated to begin on March 4 and start at Fairview Avenue moving westerly. Paving is expected to begin on March 11.
