Request for Public Records

Pursuant to the Public Records Act (California Government Code Section 7920., et seq.), a person may request copies or review public records. With certain exceptions, all City records are available for public inspection.

Before submitting a public records request, try finding the document online first

Online Property Information Portal. This system allows citizen access to various public records for parcels within the City of Goleta eliminating the need to submit and wait for a Public Records Request. This system delivers documents via a familiar web browser interface. Users can browse, search, retrieve, and print documents.

Requests for Building/Architectural Plans Due to copyright laws, copies of building plans or architectural drawings (electronic or hard copy) cannot be provided without the express written consent of the property owner and the architect/engineer of record. Any request for duplication of plans in the possession of the City of Goleta Building & Safety Division must comply with the requirements set forth in California Health & Safety Code Sections 19850-19853.

Request Timeline

Within 10 days the City will notify the requester and provide an estimate for the records. If any exemptions from disclosure or delay in providing the information are known, the City will notify the requester within 10 days and request a 14-day extension.
