CDE presentations are an excellent starting point. These free, one-hour sessions offer an introduction to disaster preparedness, providing practical steps to help you and your family get ready for emergencies. CDEs can be scheduled at community events, workplace lunch hours, or other local gatherings.

What is Our Goal

The City of Goleta’s Emergency Services is dedicated to building a safer, more resilient community by preparing residents, businesses, and local organizations for emergencies and disasters. Our goal is to equip the community with the tools, training, and information needed to effectively respond to and recover from a variety of hazards, from wildfires and earthquakes to power outages and flooding. We work collaboratively with regional partners, first responders, and community groups to ensure Goleta is ready when it matters most.

FAQs

Q: Who can participate in Goleta’s emergency preparedness programs?

A: All Goleta residents, workers, and community members are encouraged to participate. Some programs are open to ages 16 and up, while others are designed specifically for adults 18 and older.

Q: Are these programs free?

A: Yes! Most of our emergency preparedness programs including Community Disaster Education (CDE), LISTOS, and CERT are offered at no cost to participants.

Q: How can I schedule a CDE presentation for my organization or workplace?

A: Simply contact our Emergency Services team using the information below. We’re happy to bring a CDE session to your location based on availability.

Q: I signed up for Aware and Prepare Alerts in the past. Do I need to register for ReadySBC Alerts as well?

A: No. Those who previously registered for Aware and Prepare Alerts will continue to receive alerts and do not need to re-register for ReadySBC Alerts. However, we encourage community members to log in to their account and confirm their contact information is still current.

Q: Will I still get emergency notifications if I don't sign up?

A: It depends. The County uses database contacts from various sources to notify residents of high urgency incidents and events via phone call. However, this database is primarily comprised of landline phones. In case of high urgency emergencies requiring protective action, such as evacuations, the County utilizes Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEAs) to disseminate geographically targeted messages to WEA-enabled mobile devices in the area. WEAs may have limited details and can only reach those in the immediate area of concern. Registering for ReadySBC Alerts will allow you to receive public safety notifications on multiple devices, through multiple means, and for up to five (5) addresses within the county.

Q: I don’t have much time. Can I still get involved?

A: Absolutely. We offer a range of options to fit your schedule, from one-hour presentations to full-day or multi-day trainings. Any level of participation helps make our community stronger.
