Description

This project will construct a Class I bike path adjacent to San Jose Creek, from Armitos Avenue to Hollister Avenue. The new path will connect Armitos Park and proposed Community Garden to Jonny D. Wallis Park. This segment of the San Jose Creek Bike Path composes part of the overall San Jose Creek Multipurpose Path from Calle Real to Atascadero Creek Bike Path.

Purpose and Need

To provide a commuter bike route and recreational facility from residential areas north of US 101 to commercial areas south of the freeway in Old Town Goleta and UCSB. The project also has independent utility by providing an off-street connection between two neighborhoods.

Funding Source

Funding for the project includes a combination of  Regional Surface Transportation Program (RSTP), Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Transportation Development Impact Fees (DIF), Measure A and Measure A grant funding.

Current Phase

The bike path adjacent to Jonny D. Wallis was completed with the park construction. The portion of the path extending from Jonny D. Wallis Park to Armitos Avenue is scheduled to begin construction in late Spring 2023.
