Captain Role:

Captains are clubs, businesses, community groups, or individuals who sign up with the City to run a local cleanup. One cleanup may be a large event hosted by a club, while another may be a small group of friends who want to get together and clean the neighborhood they live in. Beautify Goleta is excited to support any of those that want to take on this leadership role.

Captain Benefits:

• Be recognized in City Press Releases, the Monarch Press, and social media campaigns
• Serve as a steward of your neighborhood and be a leader in your community
• Keep your neighborhood clean and beautiful
• Get to know your neighbors and network with others
• Increase the community presence of you or your organization
• Participate in volunteer appreciation events
• Build pride in your community

Of course, you don't have to be a Captain to contribute. Any other assistance you can provide to the Captains to help with the cleanup event is greatly appreciated!

Beautify Goleta is fortunate to have numerous groups and organizations that have been keeping our community clean for years. Please consider volunteering with one of the programs below:

Adopt-A-Park

• The City of Goleta's Adopt-A-Park Program is a great way for your business, organization, or group to build comradery and support your local community. Participants perform park cleanups at their designated spot every two months for a year, and the City will provide the necessary equipment.

Adopt-A-Highway

• The Caltrans Adopt-A-Highway Program provides opportunities for individuals, organizations, or businesses to help maintain sections of roadside within California's State Highway System. Thanks to the California Cleanup Program, there is now a volunteer incentive of up to $250 per month for litter cleanup events (non-profits, college sororities/fraternities/clubs are also eligible for this stipend). The incentive stipend includes:
  • $250: Adopted Highway Segments
  • $250 Ramps and Quads (All sides)
  • $125: One on- and off- ramp
  • $62.50: One ramp
  • Up to $250 Supplemental Permit, depends on size of cleanup event
  • Up to $250 Non-Traditional adoptions such as Park and Rides and bike paths

Beach Cleanups

• Explore Ecology is a K-12 environmental education non-profit. You can join Explore Ecology for their monthly cleanup at Arroyo Burro Beach or each year for Coastal Cleanup Day.

Creek Cleanups

• The Environmental Defense Center (EDC) is an environmental protection organization that also hosts creek cleanups. Learn more about the EDC here and follow them to learn more about upcoming creek cleanup events.

Creek Stewardship

• Santa Barbara Urban Creeks Council (UCC) is a nonprofit watershed restoration group. Check out their Neighborhood Creek Stewardship Program and help keep Goleta's creeks clean and healthy!

Watershed Brigade

• Santa Barbara Channel Keeper is an environmental advocacy and protection non-profit organization. Check out their Watershed Brigade to learn how to do cleanups on your own time and join monthly challenges to win prize drawings.
